Environment

“Not ours, but ours to look after”
Brian Redhead, late President of the Council for National Parks

As a member of The Lake District Tourism & Conservation Partnership, The Whitewater Hotel is committed to helping protect and preserve our beautiful Lake District. As a means of raising funds, we will add £1 to everyone’s bill (optional). This will then be donated to The LDTCP.

The Lake District Tourism & Conservation Partnership was established in 1993 as a non-profit making organisation that brings together tourism businesses, conservation groups and visitors to raise funds and help preserve and enhance the natural beauty of the Lake District.

The LDTCP are involved in many projects such as footpaths, bridleways & cycleways; flora and fauna habitats; hedges and boundaries and animal conservation.

ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY

We are committed to the care of the environment, the Lake District in particular and have undertaken the following:
We have appointed Dave Nicholson to be responsible for our programme of environmental improvement.

We support the efforts of the Lake District Tourism Partnership by means of a £1 opt out scheme.

We have identified all light bulbs suitable for changing to low energy and have changed at least 50% of them.

The heating thermostats and timers on the boilers and swimming pool have been checked and are checked weekly to ensure they are not set too high.

We check daily for dripping taps and replace washers when necessary.

We invite our guests to help us save water and energy when possible and install mixer taps, thermostatic showers and low energy lights in our new bathrooms.

We recycle paper, cardboard, glass and tins.

We have maps and timetables available to guests to encourage walking and the use of public transport.

We monitor energy consumption and have started a programme to reduce waste.

We continue to use local suppliers where possible.

We have consulted with the RSPB and the Wildlife Trust to help us to help the local birds and animals.
